CASTIGLIONE NO-HITTER LEADS BOCATS TO SWEEP

LAKE WALES, FL- St. Thomas (16-17, TSC 5-3) sweep Warner (19-21, TSC 4-8) in a two game series at Daly Field Lake Wales, Florida. Bobcats took the first game 2-0 and the second game 3-0 against the Royals. Jessica Castiglione throws a no-hitter in the first game of the double header. She was three hitters shy of a perfect game only allowing one walk, one hit by pitch, and one reached on by an error. Castiglione retired 17 hitters straight from the ending of the first inning up until the seventh inning where she retired two and then hit a batter but came back and finished strong retiring the last batter. She came back to start game two and only allowed one hit against the seven batters faced.

The day began with a lead off walk by Jessica Matias who then got moved over by a sacrifice bunt from Amanda Penton. Matias later in the same inning stole third and was then driven in by Meghan Riddle's single to left field. Giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Later in the fifth Matias got on with a fielders choice bunt single, Penton singled right behind her. A double steal later advanced both runners, Melody Grafals came up next and delivered the RBI single to secure the second run of the game. That would be the last run scored as the game final was 2-0.

Game 2 started with the Bobcats striking again in the first inning. Matias got on with an infield hit, then Melody Grafals hit a single to left field, which was directly followed with a Meghan Riddle base hit, giving a bases loaded situation. Things got a little crazy when they tried to pick Riddle off at first but she took off to second where Grafals occupied the bag. Between having Riddle in a rundown and trying to get Matias, a throw was finally attempted to get Matias who was headed home. Matias scored as the ball knocked out of the catcher's glove and everyone advanced to the next bag.

The Bobcats later tagged on two more runs in that inning that would hold to secure the Game 2 win 3-0.

Jennifer Acevedo came into relieve Castiglione who both combined to throw a 14 inning shut out, Acevedo having pitched five of them. Acevedo only gave up three hits in her five innings and received the win in Game 2.

The Bobcats return back to action on Sunday April 17 at 1pm and 3pm in Lakeland, Florida against Southeastern University.
