THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Designated hitter
Oscar Aguirre hit a three-run home run and starting pitcher
Alex Hernandez allowed just three hits to lead St. Thomas (33-18, 16-8 TSC) to an 8-1 win over host Thomas (21-31, 7-19 TSC) in the final regular season game of the season.  With the win, the Bobcats clinch the second seed in The Sun Conference Tournament which begins May 6 in Ft. Myers.
Aguirre went 3-5 with four RBI, homering to left field in the fourth inning to open up a 5-0 lead for the Bobcats. Â He also hit an RBI single in the first inning for STU's first run of the game.
Offensively in addition to Aguirre,
Nick Canino hit an RBI-double, while
Jack Diaz and
Steven Fischer hit RBI singles and
Oscar Rodriguez recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Hernandez (5-3) pitched seven complete innings, allowing one run on three hits to earn the win. He struck out two and walked none, while forcing the Night Hawks into ten ground ball outs.
Brandon Valentin pitched a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts in relief of Hernandez. Â
Ben Ancheff shut out the Night Hawks in the ninth to close out the win.
Next up for St. Thomas is The Sun Conference Championship tournament to be held May 6-9 in Ft. Myers, Fla. The Bobcats will open play in the tournament with a matchup against Southeastern.
