MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- #21 St. Thomas (13-2, 2-1 TSC) defeated Warner (5-3, 1-1 TSC) in straight sets 3-0 (29-27, 26-24, 26-24) Saturday at the Fernandez Family Center to remain undefeated at home. STU is now 8-0 at home, having lost just three sets at the friendly confines of the Fernandez Center.
The Bobcats and the Royals brought an intense and action packed match to the Fernandez Family Center, with all three sets tight affairs. STU went on a 6-0 run in the first set when
Priscila Ertty came up to serve, bringing St. Thomas up six points after being tied 12-12. It wasn't until the second set that
Marisa Markus and
Kadeeja Griffin teamed up and protected their house, getting three of their combined 12 blocks of the match.
In the third set, the Bobcats were within one point from victory when Warner tied the set 24-24.
Whitney Battoe snatched the last two points for St. Thomas in dominating fashion, spiking two perfect sets from
Dana Nowaczyk and Markus to end the match.
Shanotta Bawek registered nine kills, 15 digs and two blocks. Battoe and Markus both recorded eight kills. Ertty documented 22 assists and six digs, while Nowaczyk registered 15 assists and 11 digs. The Bobcats were especially strong on the defensive end led by
Courtney White (seven blocks) and
Haley Bannister (21 digs). Griffin and Markus also stood tall in the match as they bothe gathered six blocks.

The match also included a special tribute by the Bobcats for friend of the program Graham Greenback, a baseball player at Central Christian College (former school of Head Coach
Christina Ludwick and student-athlete
Haley Bannister). Greenback was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.  To raise awareness in his fight against Leukemia, the STU Volleyball team wore orange on their shoes for the match with orange being the official color of Leukemia awareness. The Bobcats will dedicate their match on Wednesday, October 5 as "Black Out Cancer Night" to raise funds for Graham Greenback's treatment.Â
Next up for the Bobcats is a home conference match against Florida Memorial University on Wednesday, September 21 at 7 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.
