Miami Gardens, Fla.-Â #21 St. Thomas (15-2, 4-1 TSC) swept Southeastern (7-6, 1-3 TSC) in straight sets 3-0 (25-8, 25-20, 25-23) to continue a 10-0 undefeated home winning streak.
Â
It didn't take long for the Bobcats to start off hot against the Fire as the first set ended with a quick 25-8 win. The momentum surely was in favor of STU as eight of its points came off of service aces.Â
Â
Southeastern came to life in the second set as they kept the score line much tighter, but St. Thomas rebelled. The Bobcats were up 15-12 when Priscila Ertty set up Courtney White with a beautiful ball for a thunderous spike to bridge the gap in the score. The very next play brought forth a Whitney Battoe service ace, crushing whatever flame the Fire had in the second set.Â
The third set was the closest set of the match. The Bobcats were up 24-19 when SEU sparked a 4-0 run, but a perfect set by Dana Nowaczyk to Marisa Markus led to a match ending kill, giving STU its fourth conference win and a 9-0 home winning streak.Â
Shanotta Bawek led all players with 12 kills, as well as adding five digs and two service aces. Battoe registered a match high five service aces, along with eight kills and three digs. Nowaczyk recorded 26 assists, as Ertty followed with 16 assists. Caitlin McCluskey closed off the match with nine digs. Markus recorded 10 kills.
Next up for St. Thomas is a home conference matchup against Keiser University on Wednesday, September 28 at 7 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center, as they look to avenge a 0-3 loss from two weeks back.Â
