BOBCATS WIN IN TEXAS SHOOTOUT 6-5

San Antonio, Texas - St. Thomas (3-1) defeated Texas Wesleyan University (1-2) by a score of 6-5 at the Our Lady of the Lakes University Invitational.

This game was a good old fashioned Texas shootout where both teams combined for 45 shots in the match. The Bobcats totaled with 26 shots, 16 of which were on goal as the teams went back and forth throughout the competition.

The star of the match was Kortney Hinden who finished with the season's first hat trick. Hinden, who totaled four shots, all on goal and one assist finished with three goals in the match. Amyah Banks had an amazing game as well getting two goals off of three shots. The shots leader was Jannel Johnson who finished with seven total shots, two on goal with one passing the keeper for her lone goal of the match.

After the teams exchanged two goals a piece in the first half they went into the half deadlocked at two. The tie was broken when Hinden comes through with a clutch unassisted goal in the 50th minute of the match to give STU its first lead of the bout. The lead was short lived as the Rams countered with a goal of their own in the next minute. Banks joined the party when she added her second goal in the 53rd minute, which gave the Bobcats the lead once again 4-3. Hinden got her third goal in the 63rd minute giving the Bobcats a two-goal lead.

Texas Wesleyan countered when they added another goal in the 65th minute to help inch closer to St. Thomas. Johnson increased the length of the lead with her goal in the 70th minute to put the Bobcats up by two with 20 minutes remaining in the match. The Rams didn't go down without a fight as they added a goal in the closing seconds of the game to finish the game 6-5 giving St. Thomas its second win in a row.

Cristina Garwacki had her hands full saving nine total shots as the Rams continued to fire at her all match. She came in clutch with many notable saves especially one in the 28th minute that would have given the Rams a two goal lead but instead kept the game 2-1.

Next up for the Bobcats is the 21st ranked team in the nation and the host of the tournament Our Lady of the Lakes University on Sunday, September 11th at 11 a.m in San Antionio Texas.
