MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Host St. Thomas (9-9, 5-2 TSC) defeated Keiser (13-8, 6-3 TSC) 67-53 Saturday night at the Fernandez Family Center.
It was a tale of two quarters really as St. Thomas played host to Sun Conference opponents for the first of two meetings this season. With the score tied 8-8 half way through the first quarter, Keiser took off and went on a 13-to-7 run to dominate the first quarter, closing it out with a 15-21 point lead.
Â
The second quarter brought better play from the Bobcats. As the score read 23-23 with 5:41 left in the second, STU got fired up.
Katie Rienas exploded with two back-to-back three pointers, assisting in what would be a 17-to-6 point run from the Bobcats to go in to the half. It was STU that used a 25-8 second quarter to seize control of the game and put away the Seahawks. From this point on, Keiser trailed the rest of the game.
Â
The resilience from STU helped drive them to yet another win, which would now be three in a row, improving their conference record to 5-2.
Â
Four of the five Bobcat starters scored in double figures led by
Desanta' Franklin-Jordan with 18 points to go along with nine rebounds.Â
Emily May scored 15 points, a season high, while Rienas posted 13 points.
Supavadee Kunchuan recorded 15 points, which went along well with her 11 rebounds, giving her double-double number three of the season.Â
Next up for STU is a home Sun Conference match up against a Webber International team that they beat earlier during the week. This game will take place on Tuesday, January 24 at 7 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.
