MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (10-9, 6-2 TSC) won its fourth straight game with an 80-58 win over Webber International (5-15, 1-8 TSC) Tuesday night at the Fernandez Family Center.
The first quarter brought a tough Warriors team as the score was tied a game high four times, with STU unable to break away with any runs. As the score was tied 11-11 with 1:35 left in the first quarter, St. Thomas attempted a run to close out the quarter but the Warriors bounced back to lead 15-11 at the end of the quarter.
From then on, it was all STU which fired off a 11-2 run in the second quarter to gain control of the game. Going in to the locker room the score was in favor of the Bobcats 37-29, and they never looked back.
Katie Rienas had an explosive first half as WIU could not stop her from behind the three-point line. She netted 4-of-7 threes to ensure the Bobcats would dominate going in to the locker room.
The Bobcats continued to dominate throughout the second half, leading by double-digits for the majority of the third and fourth quarters.
On the game, Rienas matched a season-high with 24 points and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds to record her first career double-double.
Desanta' Franklin-Jordan also recorded a double-double, her fifth on the season, with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while
Samara Auguste (17 points) and
Supavadee Kunchuan (14 points) also scored in double figures.
STU returns to action on Thursday with a conference road game at Warner in Lake Wales, Fla. at 7 p.m.
