LAKE WALES, Florida – Host Warner (9-12, 3-6 TSC) defeated St. Thomas (10-10, 6-3 TSC) 63-53 in a game that came down to a tough fourth quarter.
It was a game of runs, as the first quarter brought a 15-and-4 run by STU, that brought three two-pointers made byÂ
Supavadee Kunchuan and a dagger three pointer by
Emily May. The Royals responded, scoring seven quick points and only allowing the Bobcats to score two points.Â
Neck and neck is the way to describe the second quarter. As St. Thomas would score, Warner bounced back and made sure a run did not erupt in this quarter. The Bobcats took the lead in to the locker room by a score of 30-27.
It was a tight third quarter as each team scored 14 points, but it was the fourth quarter that really turned the tables for STU. Warner would outscore the Bobcats 22-9 to ensure the victory was in their hands.Â
St. Thomas took, what seemed to be, the beginning of a scoring run with a seven point lead with only 6:44 remaining in the game. A 20-to-3Â run from WUÂ ultimately took down the Bobcats as the Royals gained a victory on their home floor.Â
Desanta' Franklin-Jordan led the Bobcats with 19 points and 13 rebounds in the defeat, as she earned her sixth double-double of the season. Kunchuan (10 points and 10 rebounds) also closed out the game with her fourth double-double on the year. May added 12 points for the Bobcats.
Next up for the St. Thomas is a home Sun Conference matchup against Johnson and Wales on Saturday, January 28 at 2 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.Â
Come out and support!
