LAKE WALES, Fla. - St. Thomas (11-10, 8-0 TSC) remained undefeated in conference play with a four-set win (25-17, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19) over host Warner (4-13, 2-6 TSC) on Wednesday night.
A complete team effort with many players providing big contributions gave the Bobcats their eighth starting conference win.
Seniors
Whitney Battoe and
Carly Durr each recorded nine kills to lead the Bobcats.
Courtney White registered eight kills and five service aces, while
Victoria Philpot added eight kills.
Senior setter
Kimberly Martino set up her hitters with 37 assists, while senior libero
Haley Bannister led the Bobcats defensively with 25 digs.
The Bobcats opened with a solid 25-17 win in the first set, but then allowed the Royals to tie the match after two.
Following the break between the second and third sets, the Bobcats exploded with a 12-1 run to take control of set number three. Eight straight points in the run came with Martino serving, capped off by a service ace by the senior floor general.
The Bobcats put the Royals away for good in the fourth set as a Battoe kill gave STU a 23-17 lead, then a White kill brought a match point. Martino put the finishing touches on the 25-19 fourth set win with a match-winning kill assisted by senior
Kelli Kosydor.
St. Thomas will look to keep its undefeated conference record going on Friday with a road conference match at Ave Maria. Match time is 7 p.m. in Ave Maria, Fla.
