NORTH MIAMI, FLA.- St. Thomas (6-8, 4-0 TSC) swept cross-town rivals Johnson and Wales (3-9, 0-3 TSC) in straight sets(25-7, 25-14, 25-18) to remain perfect in conference play.
The Bobcats took control of this match from beginning to end as another win was put on the board.
The first set brought a quick lead for STU. The scale would heavily tip in favor of the Bobcats as the score at the end of the set read 25-7. The second set is where newcomer Victoria Philpot earned two of her three blocks in the match and Carli Batsel three of her match-high 11 kills on the night.
Set two brought more of the same from St. Thomas as Kimberly Martino would record 13 of her 34 assists in the set while Haley Bannister would dig for 10 of her 22 digs.
The third set brought a fierce back and forth between both teams as JWU looked to fight back.
With the score tied at 10-10, the Bobcats would pounce on a 5-0 run to force a Wildcat timeout and then continue to put the pressure to make the run a complete 10-0 run. The third and final set ended in favor of St. Thomas with a score of 25-18.
On the night, Batsel earned a match-high 11 kills while Courtney White registered 10 kills, which meshed perfectly with her two service aces. Martino assisted on 34 occasions and blocked three times. Freshman Philpot recorded three blocks of her own.
Next up for the Bobcats is an away match-up against ranked opponent no. 19 Bellevue in the Royals Classic on Friday, October 6 at 1 p.m. in Lake Wales, Fla. That same night, STU will play against conference opponents Webber at 7 p.m. as the team looks to stay undefeated in TSC play.
