Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – 17th ranked St. Thomas (7-1. 5-0 TSC) remained perfect in conference play with a 7-1 win over neighboring rival Florida Memorial (0-7, 0-4 TSC) Saturday night at Bobcat Field.
Federico Moronell scored two goals to lead the Bobcat offensive charge. Moronell, who earlier this season was named NAIA National Player of the Week, raised his team-high goal total to ten on the season.Â
The win extended STU's win streak to five games, all in Sun Conference play. In the five conference wins, the Bobcats have outscored their opponents 23-2 with three shutouts.
The two teams went scoreless for the first 26 minutes of the match until
Konstantinos Mylonas scored off an assist by Chris Giraldo. It marked the seventh goal of the season for Mylonas and the Greek native's third goal in the last two games.
Less than three minutes later, Moronell got in on the action with a goal off an assist by Mylonas.Â
The goal scoring flurry continued four minutes later as
Pablo Gill scored his fourth goal of the year on an assist by Spiridon Karidas. It marked the third assist of the season for Karidas.
Immediately after the intermission, Artur Sharpaov gave the Bobcats a 4-0 advantage with his third goal of the season coming off an assist by
Harry Molyneux.
Moronell then made the score 5-0, scoring on a powerful header assisted by
Pedro Silva. It marked the second goal of the night for Moronell and the second assist of the night for Silva.
Later in the match,
Tomas Greco scored his third goal of the year, an unassisted strike that came in the 75th minute. Â Â
Danny Martinez then scored in the 86
th minute, his second of the season.
The Bobcat defense led by starters
Santeri Bergman, Molyneux,
Chris Valdes and Giraldo were stout throughout the match, holding the Bobcats to just two shots in the first half and none on goal. The defense continued to hold the Lions scoreless for the first 63 minutes of the match before allowing a goal in the 64th minute.
In total, the Bobcats out-shot the Lions 31-4 with an 18-2 advantage in shots on goal. As a testament of STU's dominance, the Bobcats attempted 14 corner kicks to just two corner kicks by the Lions.
