BOBCATS FALL TO KEISER, DROP SERIES 2-1

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - No. 12 St. Thomas (8-4, 4-2 TSC) suffered two tough conference losses to No. 15 Keiser (12-4, 5-1 TSC) Saturday afternoon. Both games ended with a final score of 5-4. Keiser won the series 2-1.

In the first game, Orlando Rodriguez went 6 IP, giving up two runs off two hits. The right hander struck out six Seahawks. The game was tied up at two in the sixth inning, but Keiser pulled off three straight one run innings, to go up 5-2.

In the ninth inning, STU started a rally that plated two runs, but the rally would end there. Seven Bobcat hitters stepped up to the plate, but they ended up running out of innings in the game. Kendrick Gutierrez went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI.

Game two saw more of the same, as Keiser got off to a quick 2-0 start in the second inning before Michael Centeno hit a laser home run shot to left field, pulling the Bobcats within one run in the bottom half of the inning. Keiser made it 3-1 in the fourth inning, but STU answered back with another run to keep them within one.

Kenny Roder went eight innings, giving up three runs and striking out eight batters. Roder finished the game strong, not allowing a run in the last four innings he pitched.

Keiser tried pulling away in the top of the ninth inning, after a two-run homer. But like in game one, STU would make a comeback attempt. After a leadoff double by David Palenzuela, Jack Diaz sent a deep fly into left for his first home run of the season. The game ended with two Bobcat runners on first and second, mirroring the score of game one—5-4.

St. Thomas doesn't play until next Friday, February 24, against Thomas University. That weekend series will be another Sun Conference matchup.
