MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (3-1) swept a doubleheader over College of Saint Joseph (2-2) in dominant fashion on Tuesday night at Col. Jacquelin J. Kelly Softball Field. The Bobcats won the first game 9-0 in a contest called in the fifth due to the mercy rule. In the second game of the night, STU won 12-2, also called in the fifth inning with the run rule.
In the first game, starting
Emily Santos (2-0) struck out seven of the ten batters she faced in three innings. She allowed no hits, no runs, no walks over a perfect three innings. In relief of Santos,
Amber Blosser went two shutout innings, allowing one hit while striking out two and walking one.
The game two pitching was also impressive as starting pitcher
Jennifer Acevedo (1-0) went three shutout innings allowing just one while striking out three and walking none. In relief of Acevedo, Blosser came in once again this time allowing two runs, both unearned, while not giving up a hit.
Offensively in game one,
Melody Grafals cross the plate three times while
Michelle Murch scored two runs. Grafals and
Alexis Castroman each recorded triples, while
Kaitlin O'Hara hit a double.
In the second game,
Brandi Bunker went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.Â
Jamie Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with a triple and a run scored.  Castroman went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.Â
Alysha Coyle went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Amanda Hernandez make her Bobcat debut and delivered with a single and a run scored.
The Bobcats now hit the road for a spring tournament at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. Action begins on Saturday vs. Middle Georgia State.
