MIAMI GARDENS, Fla -- No. 12 St. Thomas (10-5, 6-3 TSC) defeated Thomas University (8-11, 1-8 TSC) 7-0, taking the Sun Conference series victory in the rubber game Saturday afternoon.
Kenny Roder picked up his second win of the year, off a complete game shutout, surrendering just four hits on the day.
The Bobcats jumped ahead early, as
Michael Centeno drilled a two run opposite field, laser shot over the wall in right in the first inning. For Centeno, it was his third home run in the series—he hit two home runs in the game one victory Friday night.
STU would add on three runs in the second inning off a two-run single by
Orlando Rivera. They would tack on one more run in the inning with a sac fly to right field by
Kendrick Gutierrez.
Rivera would double in two more runs in the sixth inning, hammering a ball into the right-center gap.
James Spatafora and
Michael Sanchez scored on the hit.
The offense made it easy for Roder, allowing the left-hander to settle in with early run support and pitch his team to a win. Roder struck out eight Night Hawks, with just one walk in nine innings. The performance marks the first complete game for a Bobcat pitcher this season. The final was 7-0.
The Bobcats will travel to Ave Maria on Monday, February 27, to play a 2 p.m. matchup against the Gyrenes. Then, STU will travel to Eckerd to play a Tuesday and Wednesday two game set against Tritons.
