LAKE WALES, Fla. – Host Warner (18-20, 3-6 TSC) topped St. Thomas (24-10, 8-5 TSC) 8-7 in 11 innings Friday night.
The Royals won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning after the Bobcats had taken a 7-6Â lead in the top of the 11th.
St. Thomas trailed 6-2 entering the top of the ninth, but scored four runs in the ninth to tie the game 6-6.Â
Oscar Rodriguez and
Jack Diaz each recorded RBI walks, then
Randy Oliva drove in
Michael Centeno.Â
David Palenzuela hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
Brandon Valentin had a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. After a scoreless 10th inning, the Bobcats went ahead with a run in the top of the 11th. Rodriguez reached on an error, then moved to third on a double by Diaz.Â
James Spatafora then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Rodriguez for the go-ahead run.
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and
Kendrick Gutierrez was 2-5 to lead the Bobcats offensively.
The Royals hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the 11th however to take the victory.
The series resumes Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12 pm in Lake Wales.
