MIAMI GARDENS, Fla – St. Thomas opened up a Sun Conference weekend series with Webber International on Friday night, but fell 9-5.

Orlando Rivera led things off for the Bobcats with an infield single, and scored the first run of the game off of an RBI groundout by
Jack Diaz. The Warriors had a quick response in the second, tying the game at one a piece with an unearned run.
In the top of the fourth, Webber took a 2-1 lead off a home run. Webber extended its lead 9-1 in the sixth inning.
STU fought back in the sixth and seventh innings, with a two RBI single from
James Spatafora in the sixth and a home run from
Michael Centeno in the seventh inning. For Centeno, that's now 14 homers, as he keeps adding to his powerful 2017 season. An RBI double by
David Palenzuela made it a 9-5 game.
Jose Pupo was strong in relief, pitching 3.0 shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out four and walking two batters.
The game ended by a final of 9-5.Â
STU continues the weekend series with Webber International with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
