BOBCATS WIN TWO VS STONEHILL AND FELICIAN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla -- No. 12 St. Thomas (14-6) played a doubleheader Saturday vs Stonehill (1-5) and Felician (4-3), winning both, improving their season record to 14-6.

Erne Valdes got the ball rolling in game one vs Stonehill, going seven innings, striking out 10, while walking zero and surrendering just five hits. For Valdes, he picked up his team-high fifth win of the season, improving to a perfect 5-0 mark. He continues to pile up strikeouts in the process.

The Bobcats got things going in the third inning, taking an early 2-0 lead, highlighted by an RBI double by Kendrick Gutierrez that scored Michael Sanchez. In the fifth inning, Michael Centeno collected two RBI on a double. The Bobcats would take the victory 11-0. Gutierrez went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI in the blowout win.

Game two featured much of the same from left-hander Kenny Roder. Coming off a complete game shutout over Thomas, the Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week lived up to the billing, pitching yet another complete game against Felician. Roder gave up one run through nine innings of work. He struck out nine Felician batters, gave up just five hits and a walk.

Randy Oliva's single in the fourth inning broke a nothing-nothing tie, where the Bobcats would later add to their lead the following inning, making it 4-0. Felician scored their lone run in the sixth inning, but STU held on to win 5-1.

St. Thomas plays tomorrow at 12 p.m. against Felician at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
