THREE HOMERS FOR BOBCATS IN LYNN TAKEDOWN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The Bobcats took down the NCAA DII Fighting Knights on Tuesday night at Paul Demie Mainieri Field by a final score of 9-6.

Lynn (25-13) took the lead early on St. Thomas (31-14), after a sacrifice fly in the first and a three RBI triple in the second. The Bobcats did not take this lightly as the bottom of the second brought a rip off the bat of David Palenzuela, as he drove the ball over the right field wall.

The very next inning, St. Thomas would get on the board early but this time off the bat of the Bobcat slugger Michael Centeno. His line drive double (number 12 on the season) to center field would bring in Jose Brito, helping inch the team closer to the Fighting Knights who led 4-2.

The fourth inning brought a costly error for LU as a double error placed Palenzuela on second base, and an Oscar Rodriguez single would put him at third, where a wild pitch would ultimately bring him home. Inning by inning, the Bobcats continued to remain in the game, scoring one run per inning, slowly creeping up on the Fighting Knights, who now led by just one run.

Lynn would score one run in the fifth in the form of a solo homer to left field but the Bobcats came back in the bottom of that same inning and terrorized the Fighting Knights. Three consecutive hits from the no. 1 ranked NAIA team in hits would help the team even the score line. Orlando Rivera would single to center, and Centeno to left. A double stolen base would prepare the team for a Randy Oliva double to right, allowing him to earn two RBI.

The Bobcats dominated the sixth inning from beginning to end, on the mound and at the plate. Devin Stubbings would get one K as the team went 1-2-3 to quickly close out defensively. With two runners on the bags, James Spatafora walked and Brito singled, Orlando Rivera came up to bat hit a 3-run homer to right on his first pitch, his second of the season. Back-to-back home runs for STU came as Oliva was the next better and he would hit a solo shot to left field, recording his sixth of the season, which capped off the 4-run sixth inning, bringing the score in favor of St. Thomas 9-5.

To continue the dominance, Tyler Morales would strikeout two of the three batters faced at the top of the seventh. The Bobcats were in full control of this ball game and would not let up, definitively taking this ball game by a final score of 9-6.

A combined four home runs were hit on the night, three of them coming from St. Thomas. The home run hitters would finish off the night as follows: Palenzuela (1-4, 2 R, 1 RBI (eighth HR of season)), Orlando Rivera (2-5, 2 R, 3 RBI (second HR of season)), and Randy Oliva (2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI (sixth HR of season)). Michael Centeno finished off his night going 2-for-4, with 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B and 2 SB.

On the mound, Devon Stubbings (1-0) got the win, Tyler Morales only allowed 1 H on 2 IP, with 2 K on 8 BF. Brandon Valentin would earn his fifth save of the season as he closed out the ninth inning for STU.

Next up for the Bobcats is the final Sun Conference series of the season, which will take place away against Florida Memorial beginning Friday, April 14 at 2:30 p.m. and finishing off on Saturday, April 15 at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
