STARTING PITCHER CASTIGLIONE HONORED ON SENIOR NIGHT

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The starting pitcher for St. Thomas on Friday night was Jessica Castiglione as the Bobcat nation honored the senior for a sensational two-year career at STU.

Castiglione gave up just six hits, while striking out three and walking none. She showed her seniority as she helped the team keep a shutout in the first four innings, throwing two of her three dagger strikeouts. The Bobcats held the Southeastern scoreless for all but one inning as the Fire scored three runs in the top of the fifth.  Following the unfortunate fifth inning, she shut down the Fire for the sixth and seventh to close out the Fire for her fifth complete game of the season.

In the bottom of the seventh, trailing 3-0, Alliyah Sands singled down the right field line. Emily Santos then hit a ground out that advanced pinch runner Dayma Pla to second base. Jennifer Acevedo walked and was pinch ran for by Alysha Coyle. Despite the Bobcats having two base runners, STU fell just short.

In the end, 13th ranked Southeastern (36-13, 14-5 TSC) defeated host St. Thomas (10-28, 5-14 TSC) 3-0.  The series continues Saturday, April 22 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Col. Jacquelin J. Kelly Field.
