MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (0-2) fell to Olivet Nazarene in three sets on Saturday in the final game of the STU Classic at the Fernandez Family Center. The Tigers defeated the host Bobcats 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-18) in the three-setter.
Outside hitter
Whitney Battoe led the Bobcats with 16 kills to go along with 12 digs. Setter
Kimberly Martino recorded 27 assists and 12 digs. STU's libero
Kelli Kosydor led the Bobcats defensive end with  20 digs, while
Carly Durr and
Courtney White each registered two blocks. Three players – Martino, Battoe and
Angelina Quintana – each notched service aces.
The two teams played a tight first set with 14 tied scores. After a kill by White and a service ace by Martino tied the set at 17-17, the Tigers went on a 8-1 scoring run to win the set.
The Bobcats opened the scoring in the second set with back-to-back kills by Battoe and
Carli Batsel before a 6-0 ONU run that put yhe Tigers ahead 6-2. The Tigers would lead the rest of the second set to win 25-20 to go up 2-0 in sets.  ONU then put away the Bobcats with a 25-18 win in the third set.
St. Thomas returns to action with a trip to Columbia, Ky. for the NAIA Southeastern Challenge. The Bobcats will face Union (Ky.) on Friday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. to begin next weekend's event.
