MIAMI GARDENS, FLA.- St. Thomas (5-0-1, 2-0 TSC) remains undefeated in conference and regular season play as they defeated Thomas (3-3-1, 0-1 TSC) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Another conference and season win for the Bobcats came from the feet of
Jannel Johnson and newcomer
Andrea Manzur.
The first half remained scoreless as both teams looked to net and head in to the break with a lead. The second half brought a flurry of goals within a six minute span.
Handball in the box by the Nighthawks' defender gave Johnson a shot at the spot to reach the back of the net. This goal marked her team-high seventh on the season as she is off to an electric start, having netted seven goals in six games.
Thomas shortly after got a penalty kick of its own as the ball hit Manzur's hand in the box. TU capitalized and tied it up.
Manzur was hungry to score after the call made on her resulted in a game tying goal and she got it. A pass from
Eva Castano Candela left Manzur open in the middle of the pitch. She bolted a few steps and launched an absolute screamer over the head of the keeper. A 35-yard rip would mark her first goal on the season, and the game-winning goal to propel the Bobcats to victory.
Defensively, starting goalkeeper
Cristina Garwacki earned another win to now improve to 4-0-1 on the season, as she registered two saves on the day.
Next up for St. Thomas is an away conference matchup against Warner in Lake Wales, Fla. on Saturday, September 30 at 4:30 p.m.
