MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- St. Thomas (11-7) took down the University of the Virgin Islands (0-1) by a final score of 79-41 late Wednesday night at the Fernandez Family Center.
On the night, four Bobcats scored in double-digits while
Katie Rienas tied her career-high with 26 points. Along with her points scored, she also rebounded on five occasions.
It didn't take Rienas long to score as she picked up 15 points in the first quarter and reached 20 points midway through the second quarter.
In the first quarter St. Thomas led the way with a 23 points to the visiting Buccaneers' 16. It was all STU from beginning to end as the halftime break had the Bobcats up 50-27.
Notable numbers on the night came from Rienas (26 points, five rebounds and three assists),
Samara Auguste (12 points, six assists and five steals),
Ebony Griffin (10 points and four rebounds) and
Chakari Merritt (10 points with two steals).
Destiny Wilson led the team with boards as she picked up six.
As a team, the Bobcats assisted on 21 occasions while a combined 18 steals were recorded.
Next up for St. Thomas is a second game against the University of the Virgin Islands as they host the visiting Buccaneers on Thursday, January 18 at 7 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.
