MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- St. Thomas (13-7, 9-1 TSC) took down cross-town rival Florida Memorial (11-7, 6-4 TSC) in The Sun Conference Game of the Week on the road by a final score of 65-62 Saturday afternoon.
With the win, STU has now won 12 games out of the last 14 games overall and nine of 10 games in Sun Conference play.
Samara Auguste continued her dominance of late with yet another great performance which consisted of 27 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and one steal. This stat line marked Auguste's first career double-double as she helped lead the way for the Bobcats.
It was a first half for the books as STU went into the half with a 36-27 lead but it was the scoring that Auguste produced that really pushed St. Thomas to own its 9-point lead. Of her final 27 points, 18 of them came in the first half.
The first half also had the Bobcats dominating in the paint. As a team, the Lion were outscored in the paint 8-18, which proved control down low.
The third quarter had STU go up by as much as 15 points but the fourth quarter brought a different showing from the home side as Florida Memorial fought and pushed to bring the score line closer.
It was a much needed win for the Bobcats as The Sun Conference Match of the Week ended in favor of the visiting side by a final score of 65-62.
Notable numbers on the night came from Auguste (27 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and one steal) and
Katie Rienas (12 points, five rebounds and three assists).
Next up for St. Thomas is a home conference match up against Thomas on Thursday, January 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.
