BOBCATS STRONG OFFENSE LEAD TO FIRST CONFERENCE WIN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas University Women's Soccer team (4-4-1, 1-3-1 TSC) defeats the cross state opponent Ave Maria University (3-8-0, 1-5-0 TSC) on a breezy Friday night at Bobcat Field 3-0.

The offensive pressure was felt from the start as the Bobcats put seven shots on goal out of 13 in the first half, making Gyrene keeper Genevieve Riley work. On the other end, it was an easy half for Bobcat keeper Veronica Gonzalez as she only had two shots on goal through the half.

The offense continued to strike heavy and finally netted what would be their first goal on the night in the 43rd minute as Alexa Leizorek put it in back of the goal off a rebound from a Kylie Braeseke corner kick. Leizorek's first goal of the season would be the go-ahead goal on the night and the first goal recorded in 154 minutes of play.

The scoring continued as Sophomore captain Andrea Manzur adds some insurance in the 63rd minute. Manzur, who we are used to seeing the long ball shots being taken from, did not disappoint as she dribbled through the midfield and blasted a shot from 45 yards out to secure her third goal on the year.

That would not be the end of the offense as the cherry on top came from the Bobcats leading scorer, Eva Castaño Candela, in the 73rd minute. Eva scored a beautiful top left corner curved in goal that was impossible to defend. Castaño Candela decided to play a corner kick short to Katharina Jüllich who then set her up to take the defenseless shot from the top corner of the 18-yard box. This would be Eva's sixth goal on the year.

STU's keeper Gonzalez and the defense were able to keep the Gyrenes scoreless on the night. This would be Gonzalez's second clean sheet of the year.

Notable Stats
- Bobcats score three goals for the first time since September 4th. (3-2 victory against FNU)
- First regular season conference win since October 28, 2017 (vs. SCAD-Savannah 1-0)
- STU take 33 shots with 17 on goal, the second largest amount on the year in both categories.
- Manzur ties career season goals with her third.

St. Thomas will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to face #3 Southeastern University under the lights at 7 p.m.
