STU DROPS A TOUGH OVERTIME LOSS TO #6 KEISER

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas University's Women's Soccer team (4-6-1, 1-5-1 TSC) drops a tough loss on the road to the #6 Keiser University Seahawks (13-2-1, 7-0-1 TSC). The Wednesday afternoon match up ended in overtime with Keiser taking it 4-3 at Arrigo-Vecellio Field.

St. Thomas set a statement from the start controlling the entire first half to their favor. Scoring two early goals within the first 12 minutes of play. The first goal came off the foot of Eva Castaño-Candela in the 7th minute for her team leading seventh of the season, she was assisted by a cross through the defense from Karina Medina. Castaño-Candela did not hesitate to share the wealth as she assisted the second goal off cross outside the box and teammate Alexa Leizorek was able to place it in the far post to score her second on the year at the 12th minute.

The 2-0 lead was taken into the half as the defense did a tremendous job keeping the ball out of the net on Keiser's eight attempts. They controlled the tempo and were able to clear the corners and cross to continue to let the offense pressure on Seahawk territory. Whitney Clark, Maria Vega, Nicole Maribona, and Amanda Gordon make up the defensive line that kept the first half locked down for the Bobcats.

The second half was just as rapidly offensively driven as the first as Keiser was able to get on the board just two minutes into the half, cutting the lead to one. The Bobcats easily regained the goal under a minute later when a Seahawk foul was able to set up Castaño-Candela for the free kick that would find the head of sophomore captain, Andrea Manzur to score the third goal of the game and extended the lead back to two.

Unfortunately this would be all the offense on the day for the Bobcats, Keiser scored two goals to tie the match during regulation forcing an overtime period. The number six Seahawks would ultimately take the victory after a foul just outside the box led to a free kick that would be the golden goal.
