MIRAMAR, Fla. – St. Thomas University's Men's Soccer team (4-5-2, 3-1-2 TSC) defeated Florida Memorial (1-7, 1-4 TSC) 1-0 in the "Battle of Miami Gardens" on Saturday evening from Vizcaya Park.
In a game that saw 26 total shots (11 from STU, 15 for FMU) the goalkeepers were kept busy throughout as
Mike Marx earned his first career collegiate win as well as shutout with a clean-sheet in net for the Bobcats. Marx turned away shot after shot by the Lions to record eight saves on the match.
The game remained scoreless through the first-half and in the 40
th minute the match went dark as the lights at the park went off and sent the game into a delay. The score remained at 0-0 until the 62
nd minute of the match, when off a deflection by the Lions goalie,
Nicolo Dallomo netted his second goal in as many matches to give the Bobcats the lead. That goal was the lone goal of the match.
Florida Memorial threatened to send the game into overtime in the 90
th minute as their effort intensified even putting a ball into the net over the outstretched hand of Marx before the referees whistled for an offside to seal the victory.
St. Thomas will be back in action from Bobcat Field on Wednesday, October 10
th as they take on the Florida National Conquistadors with the match set to kick-off at 7 p.m.
