MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Women's Basketball team (1-1) traveled up the east coast of Florida to take on the Division II Florida Institute of Technology Panthers. The Bobcats fell to the DII opponent on Friday evening with a final score of 57-76.
Â
STU started out the game slow as the Panthers got out to an early 9-1 lead in the first three minutes of the contest. The offense was tough to get started out the gate, but they were able to chip away at the lead and end the quarter only down by nine. What has really helped the offense stay in the game were their free throw shooting percentage. Bobcats went six-for-eight at the line scoring half more than half their points in the first quarter.
Â
They would head into half time with the score of 19-42, in favor of FIT.
Â
Bobcats were able to bounce back in the third quarter as they were able to put 21 points on the board. They scored 12 points off turnovers by the Panthers. STU won the head-to-head per quarter as they won the third quarter 21 to 18 and winning the fourth quarter 17 to 16.
Â
Unfortunately, this was not enough to chip away at the deficit they encountered in the first half.
Â
The Bobcats will be back in action on November 8
th at home against Florida National University at the Fernandez Family Center at 7 p.m.
