MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. – St. Thomas University's Women's Basketball team (9-4, 4-1 TSC) continued their hot-streak, running the current winning streak to six, by defeating the Spring Arbor University Cougars (5-11) on Tuesday, December 18
th from the Fernandez Family Center.
The Bobcats won the opening tip-off and started the game up 7-2 on the Cougars, as
Chakari Merritt,
Ebony Griffin and
Jaddah Knight all contributed points in the first five minutes. STU maintained the five-point lead over SAU as the first quarter ended with STU leading, 13-8.
STU continued their momentum in the second quarter, extending the lead to ten-points over SAU, as
Samara Auguste nailed a three-point bucket. Spring Arbor did not let St. Thomas extend the lead further than ten, as the Cougars made a three-pointer of their own to cut the lead to just two points at 25-23, as the teams went into the locker rooms for a half-time break.
Following the break, Auguste scored six consecutive points for the Bobcats to bring the lead back to nine-points at 35-26. SAU came back to tie the game just five minutes later, at 37-37, following a lay-up and claimed their first lead of the game with a minute remaining in the third quarter. The lead did not last long, as STU rallied for a 6-0 run to close the quarter as Auguste nailed four free throws and
Keiana Brooks added a lay-up.
St. Thomas finished the third quarter on a 6-0 run, and added another six points to extend the lead to 11-points and capped off a 12-0 run as
Anari Dozier knocked in two free throws. The Bobcats seemingly put the game away in the fourth quarter, running the lead to 15-points as Merritt added another lay-up. Spring Arbor was unable to bring the St. Thomas lead to less than nine-points for the remaining of the game, as the Bobcats cruised to a 69-58 win over the Cougars.

Emily May. M. May received the honor as the honorary coach by donating to the Women's Basketball program at the 10th Annual Stone Crab Dinner.
