Box Score NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - St. Thomas (16-7, 12-1 TSC) continued its winnings ways with an 81-68 win over host Johnson & Wales (8-15, 4-10 TSC) on Thursday evening.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 12-1 in Sun Conference play and extended their win streak to seven games. Dating back to Nov. 9, STU has now won 15 of its last 17 overall games.
Ebony Griffin recorded a career high of 25 points to go along with nine rebounds. Griffin was effective on both ends of the court all night. She shot 10-of-16 from the field, while going a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
Samara Auguste registered 16 points, while Kristina Bugarski also scored in double figures with 12 points.
STU jumped out to a 14-2 lead to start the game, the early scoring run capped by an Auguste layup. The Bobcats led the Wildcats 32-11 after the first quarter, shooting a tremendous 13-of-16 (81%) from the field in the period. Griffin already had 10 of her 25 points in the first quarter, while Bugarski hit two three-pointers for a total of eight points in the stanza.
The Wildcats chipped away at STU's lead in the second quarter leading to a 45-33 Bobcat advantage at the intermission. JWU continued its momentum into the third quarter until a three-pointer by
Destiny Wilson and a three-point play (the old fashioned way) by Griffin in the final 30 seconds of the third ended the run.
The Bobcats continued to keep the Wildcats at arm's length through the fourth quarter en route to the 81-68 final.
St. Thomas returns back home for another Sun Conference tilt vs. Keiser at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fernandez Family Center.
