MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – St. Thomas University (6-1) split the doubleheader on Saturday, winning 18-9 in game one and dropping game two 7-5 at Barry University (2-4).
In game one of Saturday's double header the St. Thomas offense led the way once again for the Bobcats as contributions from a variety of players sparked the 18 run output. Elih Marrero led the raking for STU going (2-3, 5 RBIs, 3 Rs), in addition to Marrero, Sergio Lopez (3-4, HR, 4 RBI) also launched his second home run in as many games as he continues to provide some power to the Bobcats lineup. Joining Lopez and
Nick Izquierdo in the Home Run column was
Jack Diaz and Nelson Mompierre. Diaz hit his home run to cap off a five run first inning for St. Thomas as the offense jumped on the Buccaneers pitching staff. Mompierre's home run came in the 4
th inning and extended the Bobcats lead to 12-4.
Chris Rodriguez got the start for St. Thomas going four innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out two. Danger Guevara picked up his first win as a St. Thomas University Bobcat in relief of Rodriguez going an inning and a third.
Erne Valdes closed the game out for the Bobcats, coming into the game in the seventh inning and had seven strikeouts in his eight outs.
In game two of the double header, St. Thomas was handed their first loss of the season by a final score of 7-5.
Rene Arauz started the game for the Bobcats going four innings with three strikeouts, allowing three earned runs on six hits. Miguel Rodriguez came into the game in the 5
th inning in relief and pitched two innings,
Tyler Morales then pitched the final two innings for St. Thomas to close out the game.

th inning for his second on the season and
Randy Oliva added a two run home run of his own in the 8
th inning to bring the score to 7-5.
Unfortunately for STU the comeback attempt fell short in the 9
th inning despite getting the tying run on base in Jackie Urbaez, as the Buccaneers closer was able to get three straight outs to end the threat and the game.
Up next for the Bobcats is a midweek game against Nova Southeastern University on Tuesday, February 13
th at 6 p.m. at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
