MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – No. 9 St. Thomas University (22-3, 5-1 TSC) defeated NCAA Division II program Adelphi University by a score of 5-3 on Monday night at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.

Adelphi opened up the scoring with an early two run home run to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. The Bobcats responded with single runs in each of the first three innings to take the lead.

St. Thomas received contributions from all over the lineup including multi-hit efforts from Jackie Urbaez (2-3, 3 R), Elih Marrero (3-4, Double) and Sergio Lopez (3-4, 2 HRs) in the win. Lopez would become the first Bobcat hitter to record two home runs in a single game so far as he hit his solo home runs in the second and the eighth innings.

Ramid Alvarez made his second start on the season and pitched three innings. Alex Sarmiento (1-0) entered the game in the fourth inning, throwing three innings of shut down relief with six strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.

Tyler Morales entered the game in the seventh inning and set the Panthers down in order to pick up the hold. Erne Valdes entered the game in the eighth inning with the score at 4-3 and after a leadoff walk would get out of the inning with two of his five strikeouts, four of which game consecutively in his two innings to pick up his third save of the season.

St. Thomas will return to action on Tuesday night at Paul Demie Mainieri Field to take on St. Ambrose University starting at 6 p.m.
