#7 STU COMPLETES SWEEP OVER USCB

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Seventh ranked St. Thomas University (29-4, 11-1 TSC) completed the Sun Conference sweep over University of South Carolina Beaufort (13-15, 3-10 TSC) on Saturday afternoon, winning the games 10-0 and 7-3, respectively.

In game one of the doubleheader, Chris Rodriguez (5-0) earned his fifth win on the season, pitching all seven innings in a run-rule shortened game with seven strikeouts, while only allowing three hits. In the fourth inning, Rodriguez was able to escape a bases loaded jam with a strikeout and a double play.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning against USCB as Sergio Lopez (1-3, 2 RBI) would get the inning started with a walk. Randy Oliva would follow the walk with a double off the left-center field fence plating Lopez, following Oliva's double was Erick Delgado (1-3, 2 R) with a double of his own. St. Thomas was led by Oliva, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and a RBI, earning his second Golden Rake nomination of the season.

STU scored single runs in each of the fourth through sixth innings to take a 6-0 lead into the seventh inning. Daniel Lowry led the seventh inning off with a walk, followed by a Jackie Urbaez (2-4, 2 R) single, and an Elih Marrero walk had the Bobcats with the bases loaded and threatening to end the game early once again. In similar fashion to Friday night's game, St. Thomas won the game in a run rule in walk-off fashion, as Lopez plated Marrero and Chris Garabedian (2-3, 2 RBI) to put the run rule into effect.

In game two of the doubleheader and the series finale, the Bobcats once again found themselves victorious, completing the sweep of the USCB Sandsharks.

Ian Exposito (5-0) started for St. Thomas, pitching seven innings allowing three earned runs while striking out two. Exposito was once again able to provide a quality start for the Bobcats before turning the ball over to Erne Valdes to pitch the final two frames. In Valdes' two innings of work he would record five of his six outs via the strikeout.

St. Thomas got off an early run as Marrero would score on a RBI groundout off the bat of Lopez. In the second inning with the score at 1-0, Oscar Rodriguez came up and promptly crushed a baseball on top of the batting cages at Paul Demie Mainieri Field for his first home run of the season to extend the lead to 2-0. STU scored three more runs in the third inning to reclaim the lead as USCB scored three in the top of the third. Jack Diaz hit his second home run of the season in the bottom half of the fourth to put the game at 6-3 before Garabedian brought in Urbaez on a sacrifice fly to give the Bobcats their final run of the game in the seventh inning.

Up next for the No. 7 St. Thomas University Bobcats is two midweek games against the College of St. Joseph's Fighting Saints on Tuesday, March 27th and Thursday, March 29th with both games starting at 6 p.m. from Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
