#7 STU RAKES WAY TO THURSDAY NIGHT WIN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Seventh ranked St. Thomas University (31-4, 11-1 TSC) defeated College of St. Joseph (7-20) 19-4 on Thursday, March 29th from Paul Demie Mainieri Field.

The Bobcats offense simply exploded in the game from the first inning and the raking continued throughout. After trailing in the first inning 1-0, St. Thomas batted around the order scoring seven runs to break the game open and lead 7-1. STU had five straight hits in the inning from: Oscar Rodriguez, Sergio Lopez, Jack Diaz, Daniel Lowry, and Gus Guerra.

Following the seven run outburst to start the game, St. Thomas added five more runs to extend the lead to 12-1 in the second inning to really put the game out of reach early on. The whole team contributed to the effort totaling 19 hits as well as 19 runs. Every starter for the Bobcats would record at least one hit on the game.

St. Thomas received multi-hit performances from Jackie Urbaez (2-4, 4 RBI), Elih Marrero (2-4, 2 R), Chris Garabedian (2-4, 3 R), Nelson Mompierre (2-3, 2-R HR, 3 RBI), Oscar Rodriguez (3-4, 3 R, 3 RBI), Sergio Lopez (3-5, 3 RBI), Daniel Lowry (2-3, 2 R) and Gus Guerra (2-3).

The three hit performance from Rodriguez would earn his second Golden Rake of the season.

The pitching staff would combine to limit the fighting saints to only four hits. Danger Guevara (3-0) earned his third win of the season, pitching two innings with four strikeouts. The final five innings in the run-rule shortened game would be pitched by Jose Pupo, Eddie Escribano, Miguel Rodriguez, Ruben Ramos and Ramid Alvarez.

Up next for the seventh ranked St. Thomas Bobcats is Sun Conference action resumes as the crosstown rivalry between RV Florida Memorial University is resumed on Friday, March 30th at Paul Demie Mainieri Field at 6 p.m.
