BABSON PARK, Fla. – The fifth ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats (40-4, 18-1 TSC) handled Sun Conference rival (RV) Webber Intenational (27-17, 10-9 TSC) by a score of 15-4 on Friday afternoon at Heart of Florida Field.
Orlando Rodriguez (10-0) became the first Bobcats starter to get his tenth win on the season, as he pitched seven innings with nine strikeouts while only allowing two earned runs on six hits. Rodriguez turned in one of his most dominating performances of the year to lead St. Thomas to the win.
Jose Pupo pitched the final two innings to finish off the game. After allowing the first two runners on in the eighth inning, Pupo struck out the side to extinguish the Warrior rally.
St. Thomas once again was able to score in double digits as an offensive unit to continue their winning ways. The Bobcats totaled 19 hits in scoring 15 runs on the game. The scoring started in the second inning as STU got off with too an early 3-0 lead in the second inning, highlighted by a Sergio Lopez (4-6, 3-R HR, 2 2B, 4 R, 6 RBI) two-run RBI double down the third base line as Nelson Mompierre (3-4, 3 R) and Chris Garabedian (2-5, RBI, 2 R) scored.
The Bobcats added runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth innings to total the 15 runs as eight of the starters had at least one hit in the effort. In the ninth inning, Lopez hit his ninth home run of the season to essentially ice the game for the Bobcats and extend their winning streak to a season-high 14 consecutive wins.
