BABSON PARK, Fla. – Fifth ranked St. Thomas University (42-4, 20-1 TSC) completed the Sun Conference series sweep over host, (RV) Webber International University (27-19, 10-11 TSC) with scores of 11-4 and 11-9 in the doubleheader on Saturday, April 14
th.
The Bobcats are currently riding a season-high 16-game winning streak, and are winners of 29 of their last 30 games, dating back to February 24th.
St. Thomas opened up the scoring in the game off the bat of
Oscar Rodriguez as he brought in Sergio Lopez to score. STU added three more runs in the second inning off the bat of Elih Marrero, who hit his third home run of the season to give St. Thomas the 4-1 lead and the Bobcats did not look back.
In the third inning, St. Thomas also added three runs as
Randy Oliva doubled in Chris Garabedian before Erick Delgado also added a RBI single. After the third inning, the Bobcats led the game 7-1 before also adding four more runs to seal the victory.
In game one of the doubleheader,
Chris Rodriguez (8-0) earned his eighth win of the season pitching six innings, adding eight strikeouts, while allowing seven hits and two earned runs.
Chris Rodriguez turned the ball over to Miguel Rodriguez to pitch the final three innings on the game to finish off the win. In Miguel's three innings of work, he allowed five hits and two runs while adding a strikeout, also picking up his first save of the season.
Offensively, once again eight of the nine Bobcats starters recorded hits in the win, as the team totaled 16 hits to score 11 runs. Five of the nine starters had multi-hit performances, being led by Marrero. Marrero went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and four RBIs to pace the Bobcats.
In the series finale, St. Thomas also scored in double digits for the third time of the series to finish off the sweep of the Warriors.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the game as Jackie Urbaez tripled in Marrero to open the scoring before being plated on a Nelson Mompierre single to left. STU also added a runs courtesy of a three-run third inning. In the sixth inning, St. Thomas appeared to have put the game out of the Warriors reach with a four-run inning as Webber made two errors in the inning.
Ian Exposito (8-0) made the start for the Bobcats as he pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits, one earned run and racked up six strikeouts before handing the game over to the bullpen for the final six outs.
Alex Sarmiento pitched the eighth inning, striking out one, and
Tyler Morales pitched the ninth inning to finish off the series striking out two.
Urbaez and Marrero each went 4-for-6 in the series finale, Urbaez added two RBI and three runs, while Marrero added one run and a RBI.
St. Thomas also had some shaky defense which had allowed Webber to stay in the game, coming back and only facing an 11-9 deficit after allowing a three-run home run in the ninth before the game ended after a strikeout.

th, as the Bobcats take on the 2016 NCAA DII Champions, Nova Southeastern at 6 p.m. from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale.
