MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- St. Thomas (9-22, 8-14 TSC) split a Thursday night double header against conference opponent South Carolina Beaufort (30-19, 10-12 TSC) at Col. Jacquelin J. Kelly Field.
Game one ended in favor of the visting side as they shutout the Bobcats by a final score of 3-0, while game two of the doubleheader resulted in favor of STU by a final score of 4-3.
Leading the way for St. Thomas in game one was
Dayma Pla as she went 2-for-3. In game two,
Nanet Manieri went 2-for-3 with one run scored, while
Jamie Gonzalez mimicked Manieri as she too went 2-for-3 in the game.
It was the second game of the day that truly had the Bobcats and the Sand Sharks in a fierce and competitive ball game. The first inning would see STU strike blood first as
Melody Grafals stole home. The top of the second inning had USCB bring in a run to tie the ballgame. The game would remain tied until the sixth inning as both teams would bring in two runs each.
It was the seventh and final inning of the game in which the Bobcats took advantage of a bases loaded opportunity.
McKenna Delaware was at the plate with two outs on the board and she helped create havoc for the USCB player at third as an error would score the walk-off game-winning run.
Alliyah Sands would cross home to hoist the Bobcats to victory.
The first game had
Jennifer Acevedo pitch a complete game with a final line that included a strikeout and only two earned runs.
In the second game,
Emily Santos and Acevedo both pitched. Santos would only allow three runs on five hits in 5.2 innings pitched, as Acevedo threw for 1.1 innings and completely shut out the opposition. Not a single hit, run, or walk was recorded during her time on the mound.
Next up for the Bobcats is the final regular season series which will be played at Col. Jacquelin J. Kelly Field as St. Thomas will honor its three seniors,
Michelle Murch,
Brandi Bunker and
Jamie Gonzalez.
STU will take on Thomas in a doubleheader with the first pitched scheduled for 11 a.m. in a Sun Conference matchup.
