BIG DAY CONTINUES WITH BOBCAT WIN

MIRAMAR, Fla. – The St. Thomas University Women's soccer team (2-0) defeated rival Florida Memorial (0-1) in a non-conference match 4-1 on Wednesday evening from Vizcaya Park .
Sophomore Captain, Andrea Manzur got the scoring started with her first goal of the season off of an Eva Castano Candela assist in the third minute to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead over the Lions. The assist wouldn't be the only time Candela was involved in scoring for STU in the match.

Kortney Hinden also added her first goal of the season in the 18th minute to extend the St. Thomas lead to 2-0 over Florida Memorial, Hinden was assisted by Sandy Benito for the point.
As the game drew closer to halftime, the rain started to come down and have an impact on the match as it rained for the majority of the final 45 minutes of the game.

Through the rain drops, Florida Memorial was able to get on the board with a goal in the 58th minute to cut the St. Thomas lead in half at 2-1. The goal was the first allowed of the season by keeper, Veronica Gonzalez, which broke a three-half shutout streak to start the season.

Candela took over the scoring from that point on to take the Bobcats to victory, as she netted two goals within two minutes of each other to bring her season total to three as well as the STU lead in the match. The first goal of the match for Candela came following a lead pass from Tina Mamodaly in the 67th minute and the second came in the 69th minute following nice placement from a corner kick off the leg of Maria Vega for her first assist of the season as well.

The undefeated (RV) St. Thomas University Bobcats return to action against Florida National University on Tuesday, 9/4 from Bobcat Field on the campus of St. Thomas University with action starting at 7 p.m.
