MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The St. Thomas University Women's Soccer team (3-2) opened up Sun Conference play with a loss at the hands of Johnson & Wales University (4-2) on Wednesday night from Bobcat Field.
The Wildcats from JWU started their offense early in the game, netting the opening goal on the second shot of the game just 27 seconds into the match to take a 1-0 lead. The JWU lead maintained until the 24
th minute when Katharina Jullich netted her first career goal for St. Thomas University to tie the match at 1-1. The Bobcats were able to get a go-ahead goal off the leg of Eva Castano Candela to take a 2-1 lead in the 44
th minute to take the lead into halftime.
The Wildcat offense was awakened in the second half, as JWU tied the match once again in the 62
nd minute. Shortly after, JWU scored a go-ahead goal once again as Savannah Jackson netted her second goal in as many minutes on a penalty kick in the 64
th minute. Jackson completed the hat-trick for the Wildcats in the 81
st minute to put JWU up 4-2 ahead for good.
Overall, the Bobcats attempted 16 shots with 12 on goal as
Karina Medina,
Andrea Manzur,
Sandy Benito and
Amanda Gordon all recorded two.
