HEARTBREAK LOSS AT BOBCAT FIELD IN SUDDEN DEATH PKS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 12, 2019) – The fourteenth ranked and second-seeded St. Thomas University Men's Soccer team (12-2-2, 6-2-1 TSC) fell in the Sun Conference Semifinal under the lights at Bobcat Field on Tuesday night against the sixth-seeded Johnson and Wales University (4-6-4, 3-3-3 TSC). The game was determined in a sudden death penalty kick showdown.

Game Notes:
  • Marx gathered his fifth straight start in the net, he moved to 7-0-2 on the year.
  • STU had a strong attack going in the first minutes of the game.
  • Bobcats got the board first as Rodriguez-Brindicci scored a one-touch rebound down the middle of the net in the 23rd minute.
  • JWU was able to tie the game two-minutes before the half ended off a cross that came in result of a Bobcat foul.
  • A lot of back and forth came in the second half. St. Thomas had three goals retracted as each got overturned because of an offsides call.
  • Tomas Greco made his comeback debut after coming off knee surgery and played a great game creating plays and space for the Bobcats' offense.
  • The match went into double-overtime and was still unable to determine a winner in the golden goal.
  • As the match went into penalty kicks, which is determined by the best of five series.
  • Johnson and Wales were up first and took a 2-1 lead as Franke hit the post and it bounced out.
  • Josh Womack was in the net for the Bobcats in the shootout, he came up big and saved the third shot to keep STU in the match.
  • Ayax Armas came up big for St. Thomas as he was able to make the fifth shot to send it to sudden death.
  • JWU's goalkeeper Alex Marciulonis saved Zanna's penalty kick shot to send them to the Sun Conference Finals.
