AVE MARIA, FLA. (February 16
th, 2019) – Sixth-ranked St. Thomas University Baseball (7-4, 2-1 TSC) split the doubleheader, but won the series, against Ave Maria University (6-9, 2-4 TSC) on Saturday from Bowie's Ballpark.
Despite dropping the finale, St. Thomas outscored Ave Maria 34-8 in the three game series, which opened Sun Conference action.

Game One Notes
- Chris Coipel got the starting nod in game one of the doubleheader, marking his first start of the season; pitching four innings, striking out four and allowing two earned runs.
- AMU scored the first run of the game, in the first inning, on a RBI single.
- St. Thomas responded with a four-run, top of the second. STU tied the game as Mondejar reached on an error, plating Diaz.
- Thompson followed with a single with the bases loaded to bring in Lowry, giving St. Thomas a 2-1 lead.
- Garabedian showed his speed, also reaching on an infield single, which brought in Alejandro Rivero. STU scored the fourth run of the inning as Mondejar scored on a wild pitch.
- Ave Maria added a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to cut the Bobcats lead to just one, at 4-3.
- St. Thomas responded with another four-run inning, taking a commanding 8-3 lead.
- STU scored their fifth run of the contest on a RBI single to centerfield by Garabedian, bringing in Thompson.
- Diaz came to the plate with the bases loaded and promptly drove in two runs on a RBI double, which brought in Garabedian and Urbaez.
- Back-to-back walks by Lopez and Lowry brought in Delgado, as STU finished their second four-run outburst of the Sun Conference match-up.
- Lopez capitalized with a bases loaded at-bat, roping a double to left field and bringing in two more runs, giving him two RBIs for the game and the Bobcats a 10-3 lead.
- The Bobcat offense erupted in the top of the ninth inning, scoring eight runs, bringing their run total to 18 and dominating the Gyrenes in game one of the doubleheader.
- Lopez once again came up with the bases loaded in the inning, doubling once again and clearing the bases for three runs to bring his RBI total to five for the contest.
- Erik Estevez made his varsity debut in the contest, as a pinch hitter, and lined a single to centerfield to bring in his first two RBIs of his career, as Lowry and Lopez came into score.
- The punctuation mark on the eight-run inning was Urbaez's second home run of the series and the season, which brought in three runs.
- Alex Sarmiento recorded the final three outs of the game, as the Bobcats finished the 18-3 win, to win the series.

Game Two Notes
- St. Thomas scored the first run of the series finale, in the top of the first inning, as Urbaez came into score on a fielder's choice.
- The lead was short-lived however, as AMU scored two runs in the first inning and added three runs in bottom to second to take a 5-1 lead STU.
- St. Thomas was held off the scoreboard until the fifth inning, where the Bobcats cut the deficit in half, plating two runs.
- Garabedian singled to center to bring in Guerra and Diaz brought in Urbaez on a RBI groundout.
- STU scored their final run in the seventh inning, on a bases loaded walk to Lopez.
- The Bobcat rally fell just short in the top of the ninth inning, as the team left runners on first and second to lose the series finale.

Sixth-ranked St. Thomas returns to Paul Demie Mainieri Field on Tuesday, February 19
th to take on NCAA DII, Lynn University. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
