(RV) STU WINS SEVENTH STRAIGHT BY FIGHTING OFF ROYALS

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 7th, 2019) – (RV) St. Thomas University Women's Basketball team (21-5, 13-2 TSC) defeated Sun Conference opponent, Warner University (7-20, 0-15 TSC) 54-36 on Thursday evening from the Fernandez Family Center.

St. Thomas has now tied their win total from 2017-18 (21) and tied the career-mark for Head Coach Candace Walker, with three games remaining in the regular season.

The Bobcats are now, a remarkable, 26-1 versus the Royals, dating back to the 2008-09 season and extended their winning streak over WU to 22 games.

Game Notes
  • The offenses for both Sun Conference teams started slowly, as following the first quarter of play, St. Thomas trailed Warner 10-9.
  • STU remained cold from the field in the second quarter, mustering only two points, as the Bobcats went into halftime trailing the Royals, 19-11.
  • The St. Thomas offense made adjustments during the break and quickly tied the game in the third quarter, following back-to-back three-pointers from Anari Dozier and Samara Auguste to bring the game to 22-22.
  • Auguste gave the Bobcats the lead at the charity stripe, making both attempts to put STU ahead 24-22.
  • Auguste and Dozier went back-to-back again, with under a minute left in the third quarter, to extend the St. Thomas lead to nine points at 33-24.
  • Warner cut the Bobcat lead to just one point, 37-36 with five minutes left in the game.
  • STU closed out WU with a 17-0 run over the final 5:22 to seal the 54-36 win in Sun Conference play.
  • The Bobcats outscored Warner 43-17 in the second half to surge past Warner
St. Thomas maintains their incredible run, winning their seventh consecutive game and 18-of-19 overall, dating back to November 29th.
