#6 STU SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST #17 MGSU

COCHRAN, GA. (February 8th, 2019) – Sixth ranked St. Thomas University (4-2) split the Friday doubleheader with 18th-ranked Middle Georgia (4-1), dropping game one (4-2), before bouncing back and taking game two (12-6) from Stuckey Field.

Game One Notes
  • The series between the two NAIA Top-25 opponents started as a pitcher's duel, as NAIA All-American, Orlando Rodiguez started the game and pitched the first 3.2 innings and struck out two.
  • Rodriguez was replaced by Jason Graña in the bottom of the fourth inning. Graña pitched 2.2 innings and did not allow a run until the bottom of the seventh inning, where the junior allowed two.
  • Jonathan Menendez made his second appearance of the season to get out of the inning, stranding runners on first and third while registering a strikeout.
  • The Bobcats broke through for two runs in the top of the eighth inning, as Daniel Lowry hit a bases loaded single to bring in Erick Delgado and Chris Garabedian.
  • STU got the offense started to late however, dropping game one of the series from MGSU 4-2

Game Two Notes
  • Following the pitcher's duel from Game One, the bats from both sides showed up in Game Two of the doubleheader.
  • MGSU opened the game with a 5-1 lead over STU after two innings, as the Knights capitalized on a Bobcat error, which lead to three runs.
  • The Bobcats trailed 5-1 and responded with a four-run top of the fourth inning, capped off by a two-run RBI single by Jordan Morina to tie the game.
  • St. Thomas piled on an additional five runs in the top of the fifth inning to break the contest opened. Gus Guerra led the inning off with a double to centerfield and scored on a RBI double from Delgado.
  • Lowry added two more RBIs to his total, bringing in Urbaez and Delgado on a single.
  • Following Lowry, Joey Thompson recorded his first career collegiate hit and RBI, bringing in Garabedian, to extend the Bobcats lead to 10-6.
  • The Bobcats added a run in the fifth inning, as Lowry singled in Urbaez, again.
  • STU tallied the 12th run of the contest in the sixth inning, with Delgado doubling to left-center and bringing Guerra into score from first.
  • Ian Exposito settled in after allowing six runs (three earned) over his first three innings of work, to pitch a complete game and registering nine strikeouts.

The sixth-ranked Bobcats continue the series against #17 Middle Georgia State on Saturday, February 9th in the final game from Cochran, GA. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
