#6 STU LOSES SERIES FINALE TO #17 MGSU

COCHRAN, GA (February 9th, 2019) – The sixth-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball team (4-3) dropped the rubber-match series finale versus #17 Middle Georgia State (5-1), losing 19-7 on Saturday afternoon.

Game Notes
  • STU started the game in an early deficit, as Middle Georgia State started the game by batting around and scoring nine runs, as the Bobcats needed four pitchers to get out of the inning.
  • MGSU added two more runs in the bottom half of the second to put the Bobcats down 11-0, in the early going.
  • St. Thomas responded by batting around the lineup in the third inning, scoring six runs to cut the deficit in half with six innings to go.
  • The third inning began with the Bobcats loading the bases, courtesy of back-to-back walks as well as a hit-by-pitch. STU scored their first run when Daniel Lowry walked to bring in Joey Thompson.
  • Sergio Lopez followed the walk to Lowry with a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Gus Guerra.
  • Jordan Morina doubled to left field, which plated Jackie Urbaez and moved two runners into scoring position for Nick Izquierdo.
  • Izquierdo maintained the rally with a two-run RBI single to center field, giving the Bobcats their fourth and fifth runs of the inning.
  • Alejandro Rivero followed Izquierdo with a RBI double, plating Izquierdo from first base. The sixth and final run of the inning, turned out to be the final offense of the game for STU.
  • MGSU tacked on five more runs before the game finished in seven innings with a 19-7 STU loss.

St. Thomas University returns to Paul Demie Mainieri Field to take on Florida National University on Tuesday, February 12th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
