#6 BOBCATS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER IN DODGERTOWN

VERO BEACH, Fla. (March 1st, 2019) – The sixth-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball team (12-5, 4-2 TSC) swept a doubleheader against the Newport News Apprentice School (Va.) (4-2) from Historic DodgerTown on Friday afternoon; Game One (8-1), Game Two (19-3).

Notes
  • Ian Exposito (4-0) earned his fourth win of the season, in game one of the Bobcats road-trip to Vero Beach.
  • NNAS scored the first run of the contest in the first inning, on a RBI single. The first inning run was the only run of the contest for the Builders.
  • STU responded with a four-run bottom of the first inning. Urbaez led the inning off with a walk and came into score on a Garabedian two-run home run to right field.

  • Lopez reached on an error and was brought in on the second Bobcats home run of the inning, as A. Rivero launched a two-run blast to left field, extending the STU lead to 4-1.
  • Exposito continued his roll from the end of the first inning, adding two more strikeouts, throwing a shutdown inning.
  • Garabedian added his third RBI of the game in the bottom of the third inning, plating Delgado on a single to first base.
  • Rivero followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, which brought in Garabedian, to extend the Bobcats lead to 6-1.
  • In the bottom half of the fifth inning, Rivero homered again, his second of the game, to bring in Lopez and pushing the St. Thomas lead to 8-1.
  • Exposito pitched the sixth inning and totaled 12 strikeouts, while allowing three hits and one run.
  • Tyler Morales pitched the seventh inning to close the game, sealing the Bobcats 8-1 win.

Notes
  • St. Thomas University opened the floodgates early in game two against the Newport News Apprentice School, batting around the lineup and scoring seven runs to open a 7-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats brought the first run of the game in on a Rivero hit-by-pitch, with the bases loaded.
  • Delgado scored on a double play that Diaz hit into.
  • With the bases loaded and two away, Allende singled to center field to bring in Izquierdo and Garabedian.
  • STU loaded the bases once again in the inning, as Urbaez came to the plate. Urbaez lined a double off the left-center field wall, clearing the bases to cap-off a seven-run outburst.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, the Builders scored their first run of the game, coming into score on a RBI single to left.
  • St. Thomas erupted for another huge inning, scoring eight innings in the top of the third inning to open an insurmountable 15-1 lead over the Apprentice School.
  • A two-run single by Delgado brought in Mantrana and Guerra, which extended the lead to 10-1.
  • Garabedian added his second home run of the day/season, hitting a three-run blast to right field to put STU up 13-1.
  • A Diaz double to left-center brought in Rivero to score, and the inning was capped off by a RBI single by Allende.
  • Urbaez launched his third home run of the season, in the bottom of the fourth inning, blasting a solo shot to center field.
  • STU scored three runs in the fifth inning, completing a 19-3 win over NNAS and sweeping the doubleheader from DodgerTown.
