#10 STU EARN 20TH WIN OVER BSC

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 11th, 2019) – The tenth-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball team (20-7) earned their 20th win of the season on Monday night, defeating the Bryant – Stratton Bobcats (6-10) by a score of 11-6.

Game Notes
  • Bryant – Stratton scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch, with the bases loaded, in the top of the first inning.
  • Jonathan Menendez stopped the inning there, ending the inning with a strikeout to leave runners on first and second.
  • STU wasted no time responding to the BSC run; Delgado led the bottom of the first off with a double, which was followed by a Thompson walk. The duo stole second and third base to put themselves in scoring position for A. Rivero.
  • Rivero singled to left field, bringing both runners in, giving the Bobcats a 2-1 lead.
  • Lopez capped off the four-run inning, with his team-leading sixth home run of the season, clearing the batting cages in left field.
  • St. Thomas added two more runs in the second inning, off a two-run single by Urbaez, extending the lead to 6-1.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Guerra doubled to right field, which plated Mondejar, as STU took a 7-1 advantage.
  • BSC cut the STU lead in half with a three-run top of the fourth inning, making the score 7-4.
  • St. Thomas scored another four-runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, taking a commanding 11-4 lead.
  • Delgado tripled to centerfield, bringing in Diaz; Thompson brought in Delgado on a sacrifice bunt and Rivero finished his night with his fifth home run of the season, a blast over the scoreboard in left field.
  • STU used the bullpen to get some work in this match-up, as Eddie Escribano, Joel Rivero, Jason Graña, Tyler Morales, Alex Sarmiento, and Ernesto Pino all got action in the game.
  • Joel Rivero earned his first career win, pitching 1.1 innings, striking out two.
