#10 BOBCATS COMPLETE TSC SWEEP

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 16th, 2019) – The tenth-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball team (25-7, 7-2 TSC) finished a three-game sweep over Thomas University (13-12, 2-7 TSC) on Saturday afternoon from Paul Demie Mainieri Field, as the Bobcats won 6-4.

Dating back to the 2017 season, St. Thomas University has won nine-of-the-last-ten games against Thomas University, including back-to-back regular season sweeps over the Nighthawks.

Game Notes
  • St. Thomas opened the scoring in the first inning, with Alejandro Rivero singling to left field to bring in Delgado, as STU opened a 1-0 lead.
  • Thomas got on the board in the third inning, with three runs, taking a lead a 3-1. Coipel was relieved by Jason Graña with two outs in the inning. Graña escaped the inning with a ground out to keep STU in the game.
  • The Bobcats added a run in the bottom half of the third inning, as Lopez tripled to left field to bring in Urbaez.
  • Lopez added another RBI in the bottom of the fifth inning, tying the game, bringing in Urbaez once again.
  • Alejandro Rivero gave STU the lead, on a sacrifice fly to left field, as STU took a 4-3 lead.
  • Urbaez launched his sixth home run of the season, third of the series, in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend the Bobcats lead to 5-3.
  • Graña was relieved in the top of the eighth, following 4.2 no-hit innings of relief, by Ernesto Pino with the bases loaded and one out in the inning with STU leading 5-3.
  • Pino allowed an inherited runner to score on a fielder's choice but escaped the inning to preserve a 5-4 lead.
  • Joey Thompson gave the Bobcats an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning with a RBi single to bring in Allende.
  • Pino put the finishing touches on the save, with St. Thomas completing a sweep of Thomas University.
