ACES LEAD #10 STU TO TSC SERIES WIN OVER USCB

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. (March 22nd, 2019) – The tenth-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball team (27-8, 9-2 TSC) swept the Sun Conference doubleheader against the University of South Carolina – Beaufort Sandsharks (12-21, 2-12 TSC), winning 8-1 and 10-0, on Friday evening from Paul Demie Mainieri Field.

Game One
Bobcat Starters: Jackie Urbaez (2B), Erick Delgado (SS), Sergio Lopez (RF), Alejandro Rivero (3B), Chris Garabedian (1B), Joey Thompson (LF), Chris Allende (DH), Daniel Mondejar (C), Daniel Lowry (CF), Orlando Rodriguez (SP)

Notes
  • NAIA All-American, Orlando Rodriguez (3-1) made the start for STU, striking out 11 hitters over eight innings of work, allowing just one unearned run.
  • Urbaez scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Bobcats the early lead.
  • The score remained 1-0 until the fifth inning, with STU scoring five runs to take a commanding lead.
  • Three straight hits by Lowry, Urbaez and Delgado brought in two runs, as Delgado singled to left. Garabedian added a triple to left-center field to bring in Delgado and Rivero. Thompson followed the Garabedian triple by reaching on a fielders' choice to bring in Garabedian, capping off the inning.
  • Rodriguez used the momentum to his advantage, striking out the side in the top of the sixth inning, as part of his eleven strikeouts on the evening.
  • Daniel Lowry hit his first home run of the season in the bottom half of the inning, extending the lead to 7-0.
  • USCB scored their first run of the game in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly, making the score 7-1.
  • Garabedian added his second hit of the evening in the seventh inning, bringing in Lopez to make the score 8-1.
  • Tyler Morales pitched the ninth inning to close out the victory in game one for STU.

Notes
  • Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week, Ian Exposito (6-1) continues to dominate for St. Thomas, following his 8.1 IP performance against Thomas, with another incredible outing.
  • Exposito held the Sandsharks hitless for 4.2 innings, and finished off the complete game, shutout performance with five strikeouts, only allowing two hits.
  • STU scored two runs in the second inning on RBI groundouts, Guerra brought in Izquierdo and Urbaez followed by bringing in Diaz.
  • In the third, Garabedian brought in Lopez on a sacrifice fly, bringing in Lopez.
  • Delgado extended the STU lead in the fourth inning, bringing in Guerra on a sacrifice fly of his own, making the score 4-0.
  • Garabedian hit his third home run of the season in the fourth inning, as well, bringing in Lopez and Rivero, to give the Bobcats a 7-0 lead.
  • Delgado added another two-run single in the fifth inning, putting STU up 9-0.
  • Lowry drove in Garabedian on a sacrifice fly, as St. Thomas led 10-0.
  • Exposito finished the complete game, his second of the season, to earn his sixth win as the Bobcats won in run-rule fashion, 10-0.
