MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 23
rd, 2019) – Tenth-ranked St. Thomas University Baseball (28-8, 10-2 TSC) completed the Sun Conference sweep over the University of South Carolina Beaufort Sandsharks (12-22, 2-10 TSC) with a 9-7 win on Saturday afternoon from Paul Demie Mainieri Field.
Prior to the game, the newly-inaugurated tenth President of St. Thomas University, David A. Armstrong J.D., threw out a ceremonial first pitch. Thank you to President Armstrong, for your support of Bobcat Athletics and congratulations on your inauguration!

Game Notes
- Chris Coipel made the start for St. Thomas, pitching into the sixth inning, allowing three earned runs while striking out four.
- STU opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, as Daniel Mondejar hit his first home run of the season, giving the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
- USCB added a run in the third inning to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, Sergio Lopez and Alejandro Rivero connected on back-to-back home runs, extending the lead to 5-1 over the Sandsharks.
- USCB pushed across two runs in the sixth inning, as St. Thomas went to the bullpen and called upon Jason Graña.
- Graña pitched through the sixth inning, allowing one hit and struck out one.
- Lopez launched his second home run of the game, ninth of the season, in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving STU a 7-3 lead.
- USCB scored four runs in the eighth inning, tying the game at 7-7, against Ernesto Pino before STU called into pitch Joel Rivero.
- Rivero escaped the jam, with two consecutive outs, including a strikeout.
- Garabedian led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a triple to centerfield and scored the go-ahead run on a RBI double from Lowry to reclaim the lead at 8-7.
- STU added another run on an error by USCB to take a 9-7 lead.
- JJ Galvis earned his first career collegiate save, recording the final two outs of the contest as STU finished the Sun Conference sweep.
