#10 STU TAKES GAME ONE OF TSC SERIES OVER #21 WU


LAKE WALES, Fla. (March 29th, 2019) – The tenth-ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats Baseball team (29-8, 11-2 TSC) defeated #21 Warner University (27-13, 7-6 TSC) 6-4 on Friday night in Game One of the Sun Conference series.

Game Notes
  • Orlando Rodriguez (4-1) made the start for St. Thomas University, earning his fourth win of the season, while recording ten strikeouts and allowing one earned run.
  • The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when STU batted around and scored six runs.
  • Moriña led the inning off with a walk, Lowry followed with a single and Mondejar reached on a bunt to load the bases. Thompson brought in the first run of the game with a fielder's choice groundout as Moriña scored.
  • Allende stepped to the plate and hit his second home run of the season, as he hit an inside-the-park home run to extend the lead to 4-0.
  • Urbaez followed with a walk and scored on a Lopez double to right field, as STU took a 5-0 lead.
  • Later in the inning, Lopez stole third and scored on an error to cap off a six-run, top of the fourth inning.
  • WU responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added another run in the fifth inning, cutting the Bobcat lead in half at 6-3.
  • Jason Graña came into the game in the eighth inning and recorded his first save of the season, pitching the final two innings, striking out four and escaping a bases loaded jam to clinch a 6-4 Bobcats victory.
