BOBCATS FALL TO FIRE

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 23rd, 2019) – The St. Thomas University Softball Team (18-8, 4-4 TSC) suffer first conference sweep this season against the Southeastern University Fire (20-17, 4-4 TSC) on Saturday afternoon from Lakeland, Fla. Game one finished in a 5-0 defeat and game two ended 4-1.
 
Game One
Bobcat Starters: Melody Grafals (C), Gigi Santos (LF), Alliyah Sands (SS), McKenna Delaware (2B), Alexis Castroman (1B), Jordan Kruempel (DP), Tyenna Colon (RF), Nanet Manieri (CF), Sarah Descheene (3B), Jennifer Acevedo (SP)
Notes:
  • The Fire jumped on the board first capitalizing on three Bobcat errors to score four in the bottom of the second and take a 4-0 lead.
  • Manieri recorded the first hit of the game in the top of the third with a bunt single and then advanced to second on a passed ball and later to third on a wild pitch.
  • SEU added an additional run in the bottom half of the third making it 5-0.
  • The combination of Kaitlin Spalding and Acevedo closed the door on the Fire offense in the last three frames.
  • STU threatened in the top of the seventh as a small two-out rally loaded the bases as Castroman and Colon both singled and Bailey Williams drew a walk in the mix, but the Bobcats were unable to capitalize.

Bobcat Starters: Grafals (2B), G. Santos (LF), Sands (SS), Castroman (1B), Descheene (3B), Spalding (SP), Pla (C), Williams (RF), Manieri (CF)
Notes:
  • SEU was able to jump ahead first again in game two as an early 2-0 lead gave them the advantage they needed.
  • Descheene's bunt single in the top of the second helped get the first hit of the contest.
  • The Fire scored insurance runs in the second and third to take a 4-0 lead.
  • A pinch hit double from Rebeka Ehrenthal from the bench gave the game a small spark.
  • The Bobcat offense came to life in the top of the sixth to score their lonesome run in the double-header as Sands brought home Manieri with an infield single, cutting the deficit to three, 4-1.
 
St. Thomas will be back in action in on Wednesday, March 27th for another conference double-header again in West Palm Beach, Fla. versus Keiser University, first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
